Locked out in Wimbledon? We're on the way.

Slammed door, keys on the kitchen counter, 11pm on a Sunday. We answer in person, quote an honest range on the call (usually the lower end), and reach most of the area inside half an hour. Standard cylinders open without damage. Higher-security locks are a different conversation, and where a lock has to come out, the door is never damaged.

When to call us

If the keys are on the wrong side of the door

Three things tell you it is a lockout, not a lock change. The keys are on the wrong side of the door. The lock still works when you have the keys. And the only thing standing between you and your bed is the few minutes it takes us to arrive. If that is you right now, stop reading and call. If you are reading because last week's lockout caught you out and you want someone reliable for next time, bookmark this page. We answer every hour of the day, every day of the year, Christmas morning and New Year's Eve included.

If any of this is you right now

The Wimbledon lockouts we see most weeks

Most callers find their exact situation in this grid. If you recognise yours, you are in good hands and we have seen it many times. Pick up the phone and we will be on the way before you finish describing the door.

Keys left indoors, door swung shut

Stepped out for the bins, the post, a quick chat with the neighbour. The latch did its job and now the keys are on the kitchen counter and you are on the doorstep.

Went down to grab a package

Courier knocked, you ran down without thinking, the door clicked shut behind you. Most flats with self-closing doors get caught by this one at least once.

👶

Kids inside, parent outside

School run, brief stop at the gate, door swung shut while you were juggling bags. Children indoors, you on the doorstep, the clock ticking on a meltdown.

Snapped key in the cylinder

You turned the key, it sheared. Half in your hand, half stuck in the lock. Door not opening, and a key extraction is now part of the job.

Lost the keys somewhere on the way home

Couldn't tell you where between the pub and the Tube. Phone calls done, nothing handed in at TFL or the venue. It is late and you are standing under the Broadway streetlights.

🎒

Bag snatched, keys gone with it

Phone, wallet, keys, all in one go. You are not just locked out, you are worried someone now has the address on the ID inside. We get you in fast, and the lock-change conversation can happen the same visit.

Back from a long weekend, key won't turn

A few days of nothing turning the cylinder, plus warm or wet weather on the frame, can leave the lock stiff to the point of refusing. Key in, no turn, no entry.

🍷

Late night, key not co-operating

Small motor skills are not at their best after a few drinks. You are not the first person to ring us at this hour. No judgement, just a 30-minute ETA.

🧹

Contractor walked off with the spare

Cleaner, decorator, dog-walker, you parted ways and the keys never came back. You are locked out tonight and you don't fancy a doorstep confrontation to chase them.

🐕

Pet inside, you outside

The dog is fine for the next hour, not all night. You want someone there fast and quietly so the neighbours don't wake and the dog doesn't panic at the noise.

🧓

Carer at an elderly relative's door

Scheduled visit, the spare key isn't where it usually is, no answer from inside. We open the door non-destructively so the relative isn't woken by a stressful scene, and so the lock still works after we leave.

🍼

Babysitter at the door, children inside

Parents already on the way to the restaurant, the sitter's key doesn't fit, the eldest opened the door once but won't again. We get there fast and quietly.

The right tool for the lock in front of you

How we get in

The most common Wimbledon lockout is also the easiest one. Door swung shut behind you, standard cylinder still doing its job from the inside, keys on the other side of it. For that, we open without damage. The lock you came home to is the lock you keep. The harder cases are locks that have already failed mechanically, cheap cylinders snapped open by someone before we arrived, or high-security units where the right path is sometimes to replace rather than force. We have the kit on the van for many high-security cylinders, including some Banham, opened with no damage at all. Where a lock genuinely has to come out, the door itself is never damaged and we carry replacement locks for every common stock so the door is secure and working before we leave. Before the kit goes back in the van, the door is tested from both sides: latch closes cleanly, deadbolt throws smoothly, key turns without resistance. Anything still off, we fix it on the visit. Safety first, always.

Around 30 minutes to most addresses

How fast we'll be there

Most of the area sits inside a 30-minute drive from us. We dispatch from Wimbledon, not from a national call centre that takes the booking and rings round for whoever is closest. The Village, Wimbledon Park, South Wimbledon, the Broadway and Centre Court are all comfortably inside that window, with Merton and Raynes Park on the same promise. The handful of SW20 streets on the far side of Raynes Park usually land at 35 to 40 minutes. We give you a realistic ETA on the phone, not a hopeful number we can't hit.

Honest range on the call, no doorstep surprises

The range you hear is the range you pay

Every lockout is different, so we quote a price range on the call rather than a fixed number we can't honestly commit to before we've seen the door. On standard cylinders, the bill settles at the lower end. The upper end is for high-security locks, locks that have already been compromised, or jobs that need a replacement fitted on the spot. Tell us the door, the lock if you know it, the time of night, and the postcode. We'll walk you through the range and what would push it up or down. No call-out fee if we cannot help. No surprise top-up while the engineer packs up.

The £35 advert isn't really £35

What the bait number hides

The cheapest lockout adverts at the top of a Google search are almost always national lead-generation brands. They sell the call to whichever locksmith picks it up. The locksmith then quotes on the doorstep, after the work has started, after the customer has been waiting on the kerb for an hour. The advertised number becomes a doorstep bill many times higher. We've taken over half-finished jobs where the original locksmith walked off mid-drill because the customer queried the new price. A real local with an honest range on the phone reaches you faster, costs less in the end, and leaves the lock in the state you'd want it in. Honesty is cheaper than the bait number.

Common questions

Things people ask while the engineer's on the way

I'm locked out right now. How fast can you be here?

Around 30 minutes from the call to most of the area. The Village, the Broadway, South Wimbledon, Wimbledon Park, Merton and Raynes Park all sit inside that. We give you a realistic ETA on the phone, not a hopeful number we can't hit.

Will you have to break the lock to get in?

For most lockouts, no. If the door has just shut behind you on a standard cylinder, we open without damage and the lock you came home to is the lock you keep. The harder cases are locks that have already failed, cheap cylinders snapped open before we arrived, or some high-security units where the right path is to replace. We have the kit on the van for many high-security cylinders, including some Banham, opened with no damage. Where a lock genuinely has to come out, the door is never damaged and we carry replacements for every common stock. Safety first, always.

Is it really 24/7? Even Christmas?

Yes. We answer the phone every hour of the day, every day of the year. We've opened doors on Christmas morning, New Year's Eve, and through every bank holiday since 2014. The phone is answered by a person, not a voicemail or a queue.

What if I'm locked out of my car, not my house?

We focus on residential and commercial property lockouts. For a car lockout, your insurer's breakdown cover or the manufacturer's dealer network is usually the right route. If you're not sure who to call, phone us and we'll point you at the right person rather than send the wrong engineer.

I left a window open. Should I climb in instead of calling you?

Please don't. Modern UPVC and composite frames are tougher than they look. You can bruise yourself, you can damage the frame, and the lock will still be locked when you get inside, so you still have a problem in the morning. A lockout solved properly costs much less than a door repair after a window climb that went wrong.

Why are you more expensive than the £35 adverts at the top of Google?

The £35 number is not the price. It is the cost of the call, sold to whichever locksmith picks it up first. The actual quote happens on your doorstep, after work has started, and the final bill is typically many times the advert. We give you an honest range on the phone, before we set off, and that range is what you pay. The lower end is the usual outcome on standard locks. That makes us more expensive than the advert and cheaper than the doorstep bill.

After a late-night lockout, how do I pay and when does the receipt arrive?

Tap, contactless, Apple Pay, Google Pay, chip-and-PIN, or cash, your call. The engineer carries the reader on every van so you can pay at the door once you are back inside, not on the kerb. The itemised receipt lands in your email by the next morning at the latest, in the format an insurer or landlord will expect.

If you fit a new lock in the middle of the night, is it still warrantied?

Yes, identical warranty to a planned daytime fit. Any cylinder, mortice lock or piece of hardware we supply during a lockout is covered for 12 months from fit. Work done on your existing lock without supplying a new part is covered for 6 months. A 3am rush job and a 3pm planned swap get the same guarantee.

Why is my key getting harder to turn over time?

Three usual culprits. Cylinder pin wear from thousands of cycles, which slowly drops tolerance. Frame movement as the building settles or the timber swells in damp weather, which shifts the bolt's path through the keep. And dirt or graphite build-up inside the keyway. If it's just getting harder, that is the warning sign before it stops working entirely. Call before it fails on a Sunday night.

Why does my key go in but won't turn?

Usually one of three. Wafers or pins inside the cylinder have shifted out of alignment, often after a hard knock or a worn key being forced. A previous key fragment is still sitting in the cylinder from a half-pull. Or the cam at the back of the cylinder has jammed against the bolt mechanism. We can usually diagnose which from the symptoms on the phone and bring the right kit.

Should I always replace a lock that's been picked open?

Not always. Non-destructive picking by a competent locksmith leaves the lock fully functional and the keys still uniquely yours. If we open your door without damage and there is no security reason to replace (no missing or stolen keys, no break-in attempt prior), the lock can stay. Where there is a security reason, a fresh BS3621 cylinder takes the question off the table. We'll be honest about which applies.

Once you're back inside

The part of the call-out the £35 ads never mention

Late-night work doesn't excuse cutting corners on the paperwork side. Here's what stays the same whether we open your door at 2pm or 3am.

Pay once you're inside, not on the kerb

Tap, contactless, Apple Pay, Google Pay, chip-and-PIN, cash, doesn't matter which. The engineer carries the reader. No "let me just take it now and email you the receipt" pressure on the doorstep.

Receipt the insurer will accept

Itemised email by the next morning. If you're claiming on home contents for stolen keys, or a landlord is billing the cost back to a tenant, the breakdown is in the format they expect.

Anything fitted at 3am, covered for a year

If we have to replace a cylinder or mortice on the visit, it carries the same 12-month warranty as a planned daytime fit. Rush jobs don't get a worse guarantee.

Six months on the work itself

Where we've worked on your existing lock without supplying a new part, the work is guaranteed for 6 months. £5m public liability, every locksmith DBS-checked, Police Preferred under Secured by Design.
