What we do

The services we run most weeks

Lockouts, lock changes, lock repairs, post-burglary work with boarding up and temporary doors, commercial. The same team and the same prices whether you're in the Village or out by Raynes Park.

Lock Repairs

Sticky cylinder, floppy handle, multi-point not engaging, door scraping the frame. We carry the common Fuhr, Lockmaster and GU gearboxes in the van. Repair before replace, honest when replacement is the cheaper path.

Window & Patio Locks

Sash windows, sliding patio doors, casement locks. The Victorian and Edwardian stock around Wimbledon Park and the Common needs period-sympathetic fittings. We carry the right kit.

Commercial Locksmith

Shops on the Broadway, offices around Centre Court, restaurants in the Village. Master keying, restricted-access cylinders, access control. Out-of-hours work by arrangement.

SW19, door by door

The stock we see around Wimbledon

Twelve years working the same streets means we usually know which gearbox is in your door before we arrive. First-visit fix is the norm, not the exception.

🏛

Victorian terraces, Wimbledon Park & South Wimbledon

The original timber fronts are beautiful but the mortice locks have often been bodged over a hundred years of tenants. Anti-snap Euro cylinders behind a heritage escutcheon give you BS3621 compliance without ruining the look.

🏢

Modern flats, Centre Court & the Broadway

Multi-point UPVC and composite doors with Yale, Avocet, ERA and Fuhr gearboxes. When the handle starts needing a lift to engage, the gearbox is on the way out. Call before it fails on a Sunday night.

🏘

Edwardian conversions, the Village & the Common

Period properties divided into flats, often with a heavy original front door and a flimsier internal flat door. Worth upgrading the flat door cylinder if you've just moved in. Communal door issues we'll flag to your managing agent.

Newer builds, Raynes Park & Merton borders

UPVC and composite throughout, generally well-fitted but the budget-spec cylinders go for the Spider tool in seconds. Anti-snap upgrade is the cheapest meaningful security improvement you can make on these.

Local, not national

You ring, a real local picks up

Not a call centre routing you to whichever subcontractor will work for the rate. Not a US-based booking agent skimming the difference. Our engineers work these streets every week. They know the awkward communal door on the Broadway, and the gearboxes fitted to the modern flats off Centre Court. Half the time they know which corner of the Park you mean before you've finished the postcode.

We cover the Village, Wimbledon Park, Southfields, Merton, Raynes Park and South Wimbledon, plus the immediate borders into SW17, SW18 and SW20 where it makes sense.

Quick rules before you call

What not to do if you're locked out

Most of the expensive jobs we get called to started with a homeowner trying to fix it themselves. A 60-second read could save you a costly mistake.

Don't kick the door

Modern UPVC and composite frames are tougher than they look. You'll bruise yourself, possibly damage the frame, and the lock will still be there. Now you've turned a straightforward lockout into a much bigger door repair.

Don't pick it with YouTube tools

The bump keys and rake tools sold online are made for old budget locks. On any anti-snap BS3621 cylinder they jam and damage the pins. We then have to drill the cylinder out, which we'd have avoided.

Don't call the first Google ad

The £35 lockout adverts at the top of search are almost always national call centres that dispatch a subcontractor, quote on the doorstep, and bill many times the advert once work has started. A real local locksmith costs more upfront and less in the end.

Do check the basics first

Back door, garden gate, downstairs window left on the latch, neighbour with a spare. Two minutes of checking saves a call-out. If you really are locked out, then call us.

The top Google results for "Wimbledon locksmith" are mostly call centres in another country dispatching whichever subcontractor will work for the rate. That isn't us. The team you reach is a team you'd pass on the Broadway.

Why this matters · not a call centre
How we quote

What actually goes into the price

A £35 lockout advert is selling the call, not the job. The real bill turns up on the doorstep after the work has started. We give you an honest range on the phone, and we don't replace what we can fix. A binding gearbox might just need an adjustment and the right lubricant. A stiff cylinder might just need a clean. Diagnose first, then quote, then work.

Type of lock

A worn BS3621 mortice on a 1900s timber door is different work to a multi-point gearbox on a 2018 UPVC. Same kind of lockout, very different time and parts on the job.

Time of day

Weekday daytime is the standard rate. Nights, weekends and bank holidays carry a modest emergency uplift. Same uplift whether the job takes 20 minutes or 90. We tell you the rate on the phone, not on the doorstep.

Parts required

Replacement cylinder or gearbox costs vary by brand and grade. We quote the part separately from the labour so you can see exactly what you're paying for and why.

How we quote

Honest range on the phone, usually settling at the lower end for standard cylinders. If what we find is different to what you described, we re-quote and you decide. No work starts without your agreement.

Common questions

Before you call

How quickly can you get to me?

Average response is about 30 minutes from your call. If we're already on a job that's running long, we'll tell you honestly on the phone rather than promising a time we can't keep.

What does a typical job cost?

We give you an honest price range on the call, not a fixed number we can't honestly commit to before we've seen the door. For standard cylinders the bill settles at the lower end of the range. The upper end is for high-security locks, out-of-hours emergencies, or jobs that need a replacement fitted. No call-out fee if we can't help.

Will you damage my door?

For most lockouts, no. If the door has just shut behind you on a standard cylinder, we open without damage and the lock you came home to is the lock you keep. The harder cases are locks that have already failed, or some high-security units where the right path is to replace. Where a lock has to come out, the door itself is never damaged, and we carry replacements for every common stock. Safety first, always.

Are you actually insured?

Yes. £5m public liability, every locksmith DBS-checked, Police Preferred Specification under the Secured by Design scheme. We can email proof of cover and accreditation before we arrive if you'd like to see it.

Can you fit insurance-approved locks?

BS3621-compliant mortice locks and anti-snap Euro cylinders are our standard fit. We provide the paperwork most home insurers ask for, including the lock standard and our certification.

What payment methods do you take and when do I get a receipt?

Card, tap, Apple Pay, Google Pay, chip-and-PIN, or cash. Every van carries a reader, you pay at the door once the work is done. An itemised receipt arrives by email the same day, broken into parts, labour and any uplift, in a format your insurer, landlord, agent or accountant can use without rework.

What's covered by your warranty?

Two layers. Anything we fit (cylinder, mortice, gearbox, handle, hardware) is covered for 12 months. Anything we adjust or repair without new hardware is covered for 6 months. Both apply across the whole SMS Locksmiths network, so any future engineer can see what was fitted and when.

Where do you cover?

The whole SW19 area, from the Village across to Raynes Park, with Wimbledon Park, Southfields, Merton and South Wimbledon in between. We also cover the immediate borders into SW17, SW18 and SW20 where it makes sense.

How SMS works, the bits we don't normally have to spell out

The standards behind every Wimbledon job

The same four things hold whether we're opening a slammed door at 11pm, swapping the cylinder on a new flat purchase, or refitting an entire front after a break-in. They don't change between services and they don't change between locksmiths on the team.

Pay how it suits you

Card, tap, phone wallets, or cash. Every van carries a reader, so you settle at the door once the work's done and you're satisfied. No bank-transfer-tomorrow chasing, no doorstep awkwardness.

Records you'll find when you need them

Same-day email with the job, the parts, the labour, and the totals broken out. Insurance assessor, tax record, landlord-tenant ledger, building management audit, all the formats that pull from a clear itemised invoice work straight from the email.

What we fit, we stand behind for a year

Cylinders, mortices, multi-point gearboxes, handles, escutcheons, every piece of hardware we supply carries a 12-month warranty from the day of fit. Wear, premature failure, manufacturer fault, doesn't matter; if it goes wrong inside the year, we come back.

What we adjust, we guarantee for six months

Repairs, realignments, retunes, lubrications, anything where we worked on what was already there without supplying new parts, all covered for 6 months. Behind every job: £5m public liability, every locksmith DBS-checked, Police Preferred Specification under the Secured by Design scheme.

Lock playing up. Locked out. Just need a quote.
